Graeme Orr (IH 1969-70) Our own Flying Scotsman visited I-House in mid-May from his native Edinburgh. A keen runner and lecturer by profession, Graeme not only ran the famed Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco, but also captivated old IH friends and current residents with his presentation on what it was like being a student at UC Berkeley during tumultuous times. Charles A. Staben (IH 1978-79) "I met my wife at I-House in 1978. We enjoyed sunsets over the Bay together from her wonderful room balcony. How could one not marry such a woman? Happily married 31 years to Mary Beth Berger (Staben), I'm Provost at the University of South Dakota, she practices medicine in Lexington, KY. Three kids, one at school in California (better not name the institution, which is a cross-bay rival). Thanks for a great place to start our lives." Yoshio Yamanaka (IH 1972) "I stayed at I-House from Sept. to Dec. 1972. It was my first experience living outside Japan, and since, I've always regretted not making more friends in that unique and wonderful international community. We're enjoying life after retirement (I work part time as a researcher in Japan). In January, we visited Egypt following our visit to Turkey. We're hoping to visit Berkeley soon." 1980s Paul A. Ruiz (IH 1986-87) Paul Ruiz fondly remembers his time at the I-House. Now a married father of three working as a Claim Executive with General Reinsurance in San Francisco, he frequently visits Berkeley with his children and shamelessly reminisces and celebrates Cal football games, Bears Lair reunions and cultural events at I-House. Victoria P. Smith (IH 1984-85) "I've just published a book, Yoga for College: Balance and Transformation, yogaforcollege.com. I'm an award-winning faculty member at Brown University and a leader in the Contemplative Studies movement." 16 International House Times 1990s Vlasta Vranjes (IH 1998-2003) On June 27th, I-House alumni gathered in Istanbul for a festive wedding. Bride Yesim Orhun (IH 2000-01) married Ewout Kozol surrounded by many IH friends, including me (in pink) with my husband Filipe Ribeiro (IH 98-01) at far right. Behind the groom is Pinar Karaca-Mandic (IH 1998). Laura Parada (IH 2000-02) is next to the bride, and Juliana Barbassa (IH 2001-02) in white shawl. 2000s Kelly Campbell (IH 2005) On August 8, 2013, Kelly stopped by I-House, visited her old room and favorite lookout point. She will be studying to get an MBA in Europe this year. Giovanni Gonzalez Dubois (IH 2003) After a 10-month trip around the world, IH couple Giovanni and Sara Bakhtary are now on another adventure as parents with a new baby girl! Sara has been accepted as a fellow for Transfusion Service at Stanford Hospital starting Fall 2014 and Giovanni's LAM venture recently merged with dot429.com to form New Force Media, a social media platform targeting influential diversity groups. Stephan Fuchs (IH 2005-06) On September 9, Stephan returned to I-House from Germany to visit friends and observe some of the exciting and history making races of wing-sail catamarans held on the San Francisco Bay for the 2013 America's Cup. Michel M. Al Haddad (IH 2009) volunteered to be a Country Contact in Lebanon. He writes: "Living at I-House was an amazing experience, full of wonderful memories. It allowed me to experience foreign cultures by meeting and becoming friends with people from all over the world. In fact, I'm ready to receive any inquiries from visiting alumni, to help any Lebanese student apply for residency at I-House, or even help plan gatherings. This way we can keep in
