The passionate global community of International House residents and friends, past and present, are gaining renown for their pursuit of our mission: shaping a world of greater understanding and peace. Results Are In! IH Alumni Survey PG 6 Nigeria's Bauchi state governor, Isa Yuguda, with Ambassador Martin Brennan (IH E.D. 2007 -12) and Daniel Mouen-Makoua (IH 1984). UC Berkeley has created a new Wall of Fame website that highlights famous Cal alumni. The names and achievements of IH alumni are well represented. International House's own website identifies 172 alumni as "notable" for their achievements on the world stage. Among these are Ambassador Martin Brennan, Daniel Mouen-Makoua, the Crown Prince of Norway, and UCB Engineering Dean Shankar Sastry. PG 7 Fulbright Scholars & I-House: An Illuminating Partnership Philanthropy Matters Alumni News & Notes PG 12 PG 15 Experiencing another culture first-hand can make the difference ". . . between looking through a keyhole and walking through an open door for the whole view." says Harriet Fulbright, widow of the late Senator J. William Fulbright. It was Senator Fulbright who, in 1946, just one year after the end of World War II, helped launch the U.S. government's flagship program fostering exchange between American and international students. Since its Fulbright Scholars, past and present, at International House. inception, more than 300,000 students around the world have left their own countries to study in another, and many of those have studied at UC Berkeley. Our campus includes 77 faculty members who were Fulbright Scholars and consistently has the honor of hosting more Fulbright Scholars than most universities in the United States. Many of these Fulbright Scholars reside at International House. The Fulbright Program operates in 155 countries and places 1,900 scholars annually through its global exchange programs. Mrs. Fulbright is a public spokesperson for the program and spoke at International House in late October, 2013. The program is recognized world-wide for advancing American education and democracy through understanding and dialogue with other (Continued on page 5)
