As seen on Facebook.....And Coming Soon To A Theater Near You! I-Houses Worldwide International House Berkeley is one of sixteen International Houses worldwide, representatives from which gather every eighteen months to share best practices on establishing multinational residential centers that promote international friendship and leadership skills. Nearly 5,000 alumni, residents and friends are fans of I-House on Facebook and their posts and pictures form an exciting ongoing dialogue on issues relevant to the I-House community. IH Alum Duc Pham (IH 2001-02) posed with Cal Professor and frequent International House lecturer, Robert Reich, at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah following a screening of Reich's documentary film Inequality for All: A Passionate Argument On Behalf of the Middle Class. "Like" I-House at facebook.com/berkeleyihouse to track other community news and look for the new Reich film this winter in theaters and on-demand! n Fulbright Scholars & I-House: An Illuminating Partnership (Continued from page 1) cultures—a theme integral to the founding purposes of International House. Nearly a dozen Fulbright scholars and alumni are current residents of International House. Also affiliated is I-House's own Program Director, Dr. Liliane Koziol, a Fulbright alumna from 1979-82 (Postdoc: 1985-86), who traveled from her native Madagascar to the U.S.. These individuals are a living testament to the complementary purposes of the Fulbright Program and I-House. Alumni of I-House are also often Fulbright participants, like Yichuan Wang (IH 2012-13) of the University of British Columbia who recently wrote a blog about Yichuan Wang both her I-House and Fulbright adventures: "Fulbright enables the exchange of our old selves for new beings with broader minds and inspired spirits. And beware the Golden Bear's knack for expanding your heart too. Nothing beats living among the International House community for growing empathy, generosity, good humor and much more, thanks to the opportunity to learn from 600 people from everywhere under the sun (studying everything under the sun and beyond!)" IH Alumna Jacqueline Barin (IH 2009-10) recently received a Fulbright scholarship to pursue her graduate studies in Public Health in the Philippines, continuing a multi-cultural community health program she designed and launched while an Jacqueline Barin Dr. Hans Giesecke represented IH Berkeley in June 2013 for the IHWW gathering hosted by I-House New York. The group is exploring how to engage other universities with an interest in establishing an International House. Dialogues are evolving in Arizona, Colorado and Israel, potentially expanding the current group that represents seven U.S. based houses (Philadelphia, New York, Berkeley, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Harrisburg and San Diego), with several in Australia (Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne), and houses in Auckland, New Zealand, Alberta, Canada, and London, England.
