Back to Berkeley With Future Residents of International House! With a list of more than 1,000 married couples, I-House has launched many lifelong relationships and more than a few generations of offspring. Below are a few recent alumni visits where babes and kiddos of former residents represent what we in Alumni Relations see as the next generation of IH residents! Floris van den Broek (IH 1988-90) Floris writes: "This was incredible: I called up Alumni Relations to say I was in town with my family 25 years after I lived at I-House. We stopped by I-House with my wife, Eva Crebolder, and our three kids. Shanti received us and gave a wonderful tour of the whole House. The House has hardly changed in its appearance and I could see exactly where I had lived and enjoyed all the parties in the Game Room and working in the library. Some good patio lunch conversations completed the memories. My kids say that in a few years they want to live at I-House to have the same experience that shaped so much of my life." Arvind Raghunathan (IH 1983-92) Arvind visited IH from New York in August, with his wife, Sribala Subramanian and their twin daughters, Anjali and Lapika. He shared his memories of I-House dances he attended, the Wednesday night coffee hours, and raved about the view from his room. He discussed having both participated in divestment protests on Sproul Plaza in 1984 and how different, and yet the same Cal and I-House seem after all this time. Frederic Almaviva & Virginie Seghers (IH 1991) Visiting from Paris on July 29th, the I-House couple Frederic and Virginie brought their three boys to the spot where they first spoke with each other over lunch on the upper patio. That dialogue sparked a collaboration in professional, artistic and family creativity that has shaped their lives since. Frederic runs a world-renowned ceramic tile company (almaviva-paris.com) while also keeping active in theater, while Virginie is a philanthropic financial advisor and accomplished musician. Their three children are their pride and joy and were invited to begin contemplating what floor and room in I-House they might wish to inhabit when of age. 14 International House Times Planning A Visit To Berkeley?
