Irish President Michael Higgins spoke at International House on Monday, October 26th as part of an extensive West Coast tour focusing on a common theme of his presidency: the call to halt the debilitating and potentially deadly malnutrition and hunger facing an estimated 680 million people in developing countries. During this visit sponsored by Berkeley's Institute of European Studies (IES), he announced seed funding for an Irish studies program. He also commended Berkeley public policy professor and economist Robert Reich for his work on income inequality, which Higgins said is integral to the fight for economic, ethical and environmental equality. n Video at: youtube.com/ihouseberkeley Full story: news.berkeley.edu/2015/10/27 Under The Dome 4 International House Times An Austrian Evening with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Irish President Speaks at I-House Excerpts from UC Berkeley News article by Kathleen Maclay On November 3rd, more than 150 I-House residents, board members, and friends, along with other UC Berkeley students, enjoyed a classical music concert in the Chevron Auditorium featuring Mozart's String Quintet No. 3 in C Major, and No. 4 in G Minor. e concert, co-sponsored by Haas School of Business and International House, was made possible by the von Kaschnitz Classical Music Fund.
