International House Times 11 14 International House Times Alumni News & Notes 1940s Glenn Boom (IH 1944-46) In response to the United Nations Celebration and Awards Dinner at I-House on October 25th, Glen reminisced: "I remember when the UN was chartered in San Francisco and we had a program in the Greek eater. In the parade, I marched with the French Ambassador carrying their banner." Irving G. Tragen (IH 1943-47) Irving Tragen, along with fellow alumnus Donald Anderson (IH 1970), hosted Hans and Susan Giesecke for a lovely lunch at his residence in San Diego during a break from the International Houses Worldwide Directors Conference on June 27th-July 4th, 2015. 1950s Rose-Marie Hunniecutt-Olaso (IH 1958-59) Rose came to visit I-House and shared stories about her time here, noting that it was the year that panty raids began. Rose has traveled widely, including Ghana among many other countries, working for the International Monetary Fund. She shared that coming back to see I-House crossed off another item from her bucket list, leaving only an appearance on the game show Family Feud to go! Dr. Anne S. Lorimor (IH 1958-59) Anne recently set a Guinness World Record as the oldest woman to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Funds raised by her KiliClimb for Kids benefited the Challenge Youth Fund, which Anne established in 2004 to help children and youth reach their full potential. Elias Tuma (IH 1959-60) Elias reports that two of his books, e Economic Case for Palestine (with Haim Darin Drabkin) and Economic and Political Change in the Middle East have been reprinted by Routledge in 2015. 1960s Dr. Kashi R. Balachandran (IH 1962-65) Dr. Balachandran is a professor emeritus of accounting and operations management at NYU Stern School of Business and the former editor in chief of Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance. He served as distinguished institute professor of G.D. Goenka World Institute and executive director of the new Global University in India. He is a chair professor of accounting at Tunghai University in Taiwan and an organizing member of the Taiwan-Italy Internship Program and the China-Italy Internship Program. He wrote and published more than 85 articles in leading academic journals of economics, accounting, operations research and management science. Dr. Balachandran earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Madras, India; an MS in Industrial Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Operations Research from UC Berkeley. Arlene D. Blum (IH 1967-68) Arlene, a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley's Green Science Policy Institute, recently caught up with her good friend Julia Anna Roth Ordonez (IH 1967-70) in Colombia. Arlene met Julia at I-House in 1967. Julia also worked in the Program Office for several years. Eric O. Sawyerr (IH 1964-65) Eric visited I-House on August 10, his first time back in 50 years. He served as a Resident Council member while living at I-House. After graduating from Berkeley with both his bachelor's and master's degrees, he lived in Oakland before moving back to his home country of Nigeria. He currently lives in Florida with his wife. 1970s Robin Berry (IH 1972-76) Robin returned to I-House on September 19th to attend Betsey and Sherry Warrick's 70th Anniversary Celebration. She enjoyed the opportunity to tour the 4th floor to see her old room and take a photo by the plaque that she dedicated to her mother, Meta L. Berry (IH 1939-41).
