T he World of Difference Wall was es- tablished in 2008 to recognize donors whose cumulative giving to I-House ex- ceeds $5,000. From monthly gifts over the course of several years, to a one-time gift, these generous donations enable I-House to preserve our historic facility, provide intercultural programs, offer scholarships to residents with both promise and need, and expand our technological resources. To accommodate the ever-growing list of names of donors who have reached this milestone, the wall was recently redesigned with the names of donors etched into glass and mounted on plates with the original marble-effect. It is displayed prominently, opposite the inside entrance to the I-House Café and adjacent to the northern entry to the Great Hall, ensuring that each year, thousands of visitors, friends, alumni, and members of the campus and resident community will enjoy the opportunity to peruse the names of those without whom our work would not be possible. We truly thank all of our generous contributors who are so crucial to the success of I-House. 10 International House Times Making a World of Difference Below is the wording engraved on the plaque: Virginia Hamerslag '39, An Intrepid Spirit Met Husband Jay Friedman at I-House Dance Loving Mom, Nana, Aunt and Friend to All For more information about naming opportunities at International House, please visit our website at ihouse.berkeley.edu/naming Bench Plaque Dedicated to the "Intrepid Spirit," Virginia Hamerslag Friedman Virginia Hamerslag Friedman was very loyal to Cal from the day she entered as a freshman in 1935. Her family, namely her three children, Diane Brett (M.B.A. from UCB 1981), Robert Friedman, and John Friedman (B.A. from UCB 1968), along with her niece, Carol Turner, and nephew, Richard Jeweler (B.A. from UCB 1971), came together to honor what would have been Virginia's 100th birthday on March 11, 2018. Virginia's family said... "I-House inspired Virginia to pursue her desire to learn about different cultures and make meaningful connections with people from around the world. She became a world traveler who visited the "four corners" of the world and inspired so many family members to do the same."
