International House Times 17 Jill Van Zanten (IH 1978-79) and Hiromi Komiya (IH 1978-79) returned to I-House in May. ey visited the library where Jill used to read newspapers from around the world and Hiromi played the grand piano in the Great Hall just as she did over 45 years ago. Mario P. Diaz (IH1976-77) and Abdelkrim"Karim" Salhi (IH 1976-77) were room- mates at I-House. Mario writes, "We came from different parts of the world. He was a grad student majoring in chemical engineering, and I was an undergrad in humanities. It was an amazing life experience that I still cherish to this day ... e photos here capture us in our youth on the I-House volleyball team, and 46 years later!" 1977 2023 While visiting the Bay Area for a conference, Dae Young Bae (IH 2012-13) and his lab colleague stopped by I-House. During the visit, he took a photo by the room where he lived with Melvin Kong (IH 2012-13). 2013 2023 1980 A group of I-House friends returned for a mini reunion last fall and enjoyed a tour led by IH resident Carina Samson (IH 2021-24). ey were happy to re-create a photo that they posed for in the 1980s. e group still has that amazing I-House spirit (if not more!) as they did 40 years ago.
