10 International House Times Philanthropy Matters E ach year, I-House is proud to offer approximately $1,000,000 in need-based financial aid to residents to assist with room and board expenses. These financial awards are made possible through the generous support of I-House alumni, board members, corporations, and foundations who believe in the power and promise of the I-House experience. Six new scholarships have been established, helping to ensure socioeconomic, geographic, cultural, and academic diversity among our residents and contributing to the essence of I-House–a vibrant and inclusive multicultural community. The James V. Huhn and Betty R. Huhn I-House Scholarship will provide room and board support for a resident enrolled in the Haas School of Business undergraduate program. The Professor David Jenkins Memorial Scholarship will provide room and board support for a graduate student in civil engineering at International House. The Maxine G. and Hugh E. Macbeth Jr. Scholarship will provide room and board support for a graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in law or in the arts. The Ida Katherine Rigby Room and Board Scholarship will provide room and board support for a resident from Africa. The Charles J. and Laurene Wu McClain Endowed Scholarship and the Dr. Jayanta Roy Memorial Scholarship for International House Room and Board will enable future UC Berkeley students from any region of the world to experience I-House. Area of study: Applied Mathematics Alireza Pourghaderi (Iran) Carl and Betty Helmholz Gateway Fellowship. Area of study: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Rivana Cerullo (Switzerland) Joan and Egon von Kaschnitz Gateway Fellowship. Area of study: Anthropology David Keith (USA) Open Gateway Fellowship. Area of study: History Romeo Tokinai (Togo) Allan and Kathleen Rosevear Gateway Fellowship. Area of study: Anthropology Gateway Fellowships I n collaboration with UC Berkeley, I-House awards Gateway Fellowships to a select group of I-House residents enrolled in a doctoral program at Cal. Award recipients receive one academic year of room and board, fees and tuition paid by the student's academic department, and a $5,000 stipend from the UC Berkeley Graduate Division.
