Board Transitions I t has been a remarkable year indeed. Upheaval, resilience, renewal, and reimagining have now led us to the welcome occasion of our reopening! I am delighted to share with you that a full complement of new and returning residents from 64 countries and 86 areas of study are once again creating and experiencing the I-House magic. As I reflect on my recently completed first year as Executive Director, I am extremely grateful for the dedicated support of the I-House community during this unprecedented time. We have emerged from the sad but necessary temporary closure of the house, and are experiencing a period of cautious optimism as we chart our course through the continuing pandemic. Foremost in our minds is providing the opportunity for current residents to take full advantage of the transformational experience of living at I-House, which generations of alumni have treasured for now going on ten decades! In this issue, we begin by thanking several board members who are finishing their terms for their service and support and share an update on the many seismic, safety upgrades and renovations we've been able to make to our beloved historic building during the closure. As we continuously imagine the future while honoring the past, we are also planning additional improvements to increase accessibility, functionality, and ambiance. One of the most exciting aspects of I-House has been the exceptional quality of our dining experience. In this issue, we introduce members of our hospitality team who are upholding this signature tradition with flair and excitement. is issue contains the annual Honor Roll listing of gifts from the past year, which have made a world of difference, including those gifts made in memory and in honor of special family members and friends. We also share an update on the Global Community Initiative, seeking to facilitate connections between alumni, and between alumni and residents. Please join our engagement and mentoring platform, ihberkeleyconnect.org, if you haven't already! In our Scholarship Spotlight, this issue highlights some of the many worthy recipients of named scholarships generously provided by alumni and friends. As always, we hope that you will enjoy hearing about some I-House friends in our News & Notes feature, and will fondly recall those included in the In Memory section who have passed. We'd like to take the opportunity of this newsletter to share the theme of our upcoming annual appeal season, "Who Opened ese Doors for You?" as an opportunity to honor the remarkable history of I-House and to invite you to support us in celebration of our reopening. As Executive Director, I welcome your contact, your ideas and suggestions, and I invite you to participate even more fully in our global community. My personal thanks for your support in keeping the I-House dream alive! n Sincerely, Shaun R.
