International House Times 15 1970s Eugenio Frongia (IH 1971-73) writes, "I met my future and present wife at I-House, Carmen Ochoa-Frongia (IH 1970-72), M.P.H. from UC Berkeley. We were residents of I-House in 1971- 73. I wish "Lodestar" still existed: it would still be perfect for our times. We are a family of "BEARS." Our first daughter, Laura, was at UCB 1999-2003 for a degree in astrophysics. She is now a surgeon. Our second daughter, Lisa, is now an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at UCSF. We are looking forward to the full reopening I-House!" Mark Winn (IH 1974-76) writes, "I am and have been a professional actor and print ad model in LA. But most importantly, I have carried the torch of diversity and international cultural understanding my entire life after Cal. I incidentally portray international characters in both films and TV voice-overs on stage and in commercial print ads." 1980s Lorene Kay Anderson (IH 1989-90) writes, "I lived at I-House from January 1989 (through the summer too) until I graduated with my M.F.A. in May 1990. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I was a graduate student in the UCB art department. I am still a full-time artist, living in Oakland, CA." Vanita Murthy (IH 1987-89) and her husband, Gary Nobel visited I-House from San Diego to attend their son's graduation in May 2021. e couple met while attending Cal and earned degrees in engineering, and their son followed in their footsteps 28 years later! ey reminisced about the good times they both had when Vanita lived at I-House. Vanita was part of the Uhuru (freedom in Swahili) group of friends who organized an alumni reunion in 2017. She writes, "It is always fun to be back on campus and reminisce about the many happy memories I made in I-House. Many of the people I met then have become lifelong friends." Mark Spencer (IH 1988-89) writes, "I met my wife, Juliet Estrella (IH 1988-90), at I-House in 1988, and next year, we'll celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!" Read their I-House love story at ihouse.berkeley.edu/love Christopher Gozali (IH 1992) was excited to visit I-House from Jakarta, Indonesia, during his trip to Berkeley to help his son, William, settle into his Freshman year. Christopher has an extensive architectural background and said that he was "like a kid in a candy store" with his camera, admiring and taking photos of the many details of our historic building during a tour with Associate Director of Philanthropy Joy Iwasa. Leyla Modirzadeh (IH 1988-90 and 2019-20) writes, "I-House has been a big part of my life since I lived there when I was an undergraduate from 1988 to 1990. I teach at UC Berkeley, so I was living at the I-House last year until the pandemic. I recently wrote a book of my art drawings, and so many of the drawings are of the inside and outside of I-House! e book is called Everyday Oddities: An Illustrated Year and you can purchase it through my website: www. leylamodirzadeh.com" 2000s Nicholas Bridgman (IH 2002) played piano in the I-House Jazz Band when he lived here in 2002. He shared some of his music on I-House Berkeley Connect, and his song, "Wheel of Life" accompanied the I-House Alumni Memories video last October. After graduating, he took up writing fiction and has since written over 50 short stories and a novel. We stayed at I-House for the academic year 2015-16. We met over a game of 'e Settlers of Catan' at e Great Hall, that we both claim we have won (of course, I did)!
