An additional 51 scholarships were made possible through two major programs funded by the Mastercard Foundation and Nanyang Technology University. Key financial aid programs include: 11 Gateway Fellowships providing full I-House room and board funding for doctoral candidates, a stipend from the Graduate Division, and tuition and fees paid by the academic department; 28 named scholarships providing partial room and board funding to U.S. and international students. I wish that my I-House experience turns out to be the degree in diplomacy that I never had." Chittaranjan Prasad Computer Science & Economics, India "Although racism is getting stronger all around the world, I am sure that we are capable of building a supporting and inclusive community where we learn and grow with each other's differences." Yuriria Avila Guzman, Journalism, Mexico "Sitting on the von Kaschnitz Patio, feeling the warmth of the sun while playing guitar and singing, Casper, Takashi, Linnan, Maria, and I are looking back at our first year at Berkeley. None of us could have imagined that we'd live side by side, interact with, and learn from students from all continents. None of us could have imagined that every meal would feed not only our bodies, but even more, our souls with friendships, insights about foreign customs, mentalities, and languages. None of us could have imagined that after only a year we'd be in a community that feels like home." Marius Wiggart Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Germany
