In 1955, as part of the
50th Anniversary of Rotary
International, Rotarian Bert
Martin embarked on a program
to build an International House
in Brisbane. It was opened
in 1965 with 50 residents.
Today, International House
Brisbane provides fully catered
accommodation for 200
undergraduate students and
self catered accommodation for
40 post graduate students. The
single occupant study/bedrooms
are available to International and
Australian students attending the
University of Queensland.
For each of these platforms IH
coordinates a range of activities
and events including:
International House operates as
a social enterprise a ���Community
for Understanding��� and is
underpinned by four platforms:
��� Annual Peace and
Understanding Lecture
��� Being sustainable,
��� Rewards and awards program
��� Being culturally diverse,
aware and inclusive,
The College aims to build
partnerships and alliances,
through the International House
Foundation and our Alumni,
with organizations in the wider
community that espouse and are
consistent with our social mission.

and responsible, and
��� Being supportive (of residents).
��� Eco-friendly policy and program
��� Soir��e (annual multicultural festival)
��� Tabiat Selasa (Tuesday���s Habit
of cultural, sporting, social,
and environmental projects)
��� I-Feast and I-Festivals
e.g. mid autumn
��� Bara Khanas
(formal dinners celebrating
achievement and culture)

��� Pastoral and Academic program
