Big Thanks; May 9th Gala to Honor Baroness Oona King; Join us for CalDay on April 13th

Dear Alumni and friends,

Thank you to all who participated in this year’s Big Give for International House on Thursday, March 14th! You truly helped I-House “seize the moment” and made a big difference in the lives of our residents.

By exceeding the ambitious goal of 150 gifts and ending the day with 175 gifts, we received $3,000 in matching challenge funds from our I-House Big Match donors. Thanks to the efforts of resident volunteers and the I-House Resident Council (pictured above), we received a record number of gifts from current residents.

I-House won an additional $4,000 campus prize in the Raising the Bar challenge because of the impressive increase over last year’s 104 gifts.

Gifts such as these to The Fund for I-House provide crucial unrestricted support for day-to-day operations. This flexible funding can be put to work where the current need is greatest, supporting programs that promote the mission of the House, student jobs that help residents make ends meet, financial aid for promising students, and crucial maintenance of our well-loved and well-used building.

We were deeply moved by the stories, videos, and photos that were shared on our social media, and for the thoughtful donations we received throughout the day. Thank you for making Big Give a success for International House!

I-House Gala to Honor Notable Alumna Baroness Oona King

We are very excited to announce that our Gala Honoree for 2019 will be Oona King (IH 1989-90) in recognition of her visionary leadership and human rights advocacy as a member of the British Parliament and as the Director of Diversity Strategy at Google. UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ will present the Alumna of the Year Award to Baroness King during the festive celebration on May 9, 2019.

Gala attendees will enjoy a delicious three-course meal provided by I-House Catering and Executive Chef Todd Koenigsberg. The mouthwatering Gala entrées are: Pan Seared Cauliflower Steak with Spring Vegetable Risotto, Cedar Planked Mahi Mahi, and Grilled Colorado Lamb with Mustard-Tahini.

Cal Day
Global Beats, Brunch, and Tours
Saturday, April 13^th
11 am to 1 pm

In celebration of Cal Day, you can get a glimpse of the International House experience. Guests will have the opportunity to have global conversations, listen to live I-House resident performances, and take a tour to see the newest I-House renovations.

If guests would like to join us for brunch in our Dining Commons, the cost is $15 for community members and $13 for IH alumni with alumni card. IH alumni, please visit the alumni table to receive your alumni card and souvenir gift!
