I-House Connection September 2016

The I-House Connection

September 2016

There are Many Facets to I-House Berkeley

Dear I-House Alumni, Friends, and Residents,
Hans Giesecke

As you will see by reading this I-House Connection, there are indeed many facets to the I-House experience here in Berkeley. From dining to programming to special events such as our upcoming Global Homecoming on October 2nd, there are many ways to plug into the vibe of this special place. We invite you to consider these various ways of staying involved with the I-House mission of fostering intercultural respect and understanding, lifelong friendships and leadership skills for the promotion of a more tolerant and peaceful world.

Our motto is, “Come, join us!”  We take this statement of invitation very seriously and we hope that you do too.  I-House realizes its mission best by involving many of our stakeholders in our undertakings. That means, of course, that the place comes alive when you show up! We hope that you will continue to do so on a regular basis!

Sincerely,

Hans Giesecke
Executive Director

Joe Lurie: Perception and Deception Talk
September 27, 2016 – 5:30pm-7:30pm
Berkeley Central Library

Joe Lurie

Joe Lurie, Executive Director Emeritus of I-House, presents a fascinating and enlightening talk that spans his more than thirty years of experience in leadership, both at the International House and abroad. Bringing with him a feast of cross-cultural stories and misadventures, he explores the deeper cultural messages that typically escape people due to their prejudices, be they conscious or unconscious. Lurie reveals how cultural filters distort perceptions of others in the worlds of immigration, diplomacy, and business.
